Statewide Criminal
Many states have a central repository collecting criminal histories from all counties in the state. The primary search criteria necessary to complete a statewide criminal background check vary from state to state. The typical primary search criteria are first name, last name, date of birth and Social Security number. Types of Statewide Criminal Results can include:
- Traffic
- Ordinance
- Misdemeanor
- Felony
County Criminal
Inquiry into an individual’s criminal background in a particular county directly from the county court. Often a Social Security Number Plus search is ordered first and those results provide the one click capability of ordering the counties where the person has previously lived.

State department record searches offer a look into state agency information. Examples include:

Federal Databases & Nationwide Searches
Federal criminal history searches for crimes against the federal government. Searches are available by state or nationwide. Offenses may include tax evasion, terrorist activities, mail fraud, drug trafficking, and anything investigated by the FBI.
- Government Watch List – A search of the national Government Watch List maintained by the Department of Homeland Security.
- GSA – General Services Administration – Entities and individuals excluded from participating in federal procurement programs.
- OIG Office of the Inspector General – Individuals or entities excluded from program payment because of Medicare or Medicaid fraud or abuse
- OIG – Office of the Inspector General – Recurring – An ongoing, monthly check of your staff
- OFAC – Office of Foreign Assets Control – A search of individuals and companies owned or controlled by, or acting for or on behalf of, targeted countries compiled by the US Dept. of the Treasury. It also searches individuals, groups, and entities, such as terrorists and narcotics traffickers designated under programs that are not country-specific. Collectively, such individuals and companies are called “Specially Designated Nationals” or “SDNs.” Their assets are blocked and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from dealing with them.

The applicant is provided a link to the secure website along with a code that corresponds to their required search package.
